Give the rhythm setting a chance

Give the rhythm setting a chance

Okay, so this might be a bit controversial … but we need to talk about the rhythm button on sex toys.

Through my very serious research (aka stalking Reddit threads for way too long), I’ve noticed it gets a lot of hate. And honestly? I get why.

Here’s the problem:

  • You go to crank up the intensity… and oops, you’ve hit the rhythm setting instead. Yeah, it makes me furious too.
  • Most of us are short on time. Even solo play can feel like a “squeeze it in” situation—washing to fold, emails to send, the dog needs walking. The rhythm button feels like it drags things out.

But… here’s my hot take: that might actually be the point.

Instead of treating it like a frustrating mistake, what if we actually gave it a fair go?

How to actually enjoy the rhythm button

💫 Warm up first
Don’t just jump in cold with some chaotic disco pattern and then declare it useless. Start with your favourite steady buzz, get properly turned on, then switch it up.

💫 Pick a pattern you can predict
Some settings are basically vibration roulette, and nope, no one asked for that. Go for one you can feel coming—it makes the build-up way more enjoyable.

💫 Breathe with it
I know, I know, it sounds a little woo-woo. But trust me. I once went to a class where they talked about breathing with sensation, and it stuck with me. Try syncing your breath with the rise and fall—like edging yourself with each inhale and exhale. I remember the teacher saying something like "breathe the sensation up into your head"

💫 Give yourself time
This is the hardest bit. We’re so used to rushing. But the beauty of patterns is they force you to slow down. It’s not about racing to the finish line, it’s about letting your body enjoy the whole journey.

So, next time you've got a bit of time on your hands - try this.

(I'll be developing a toy from scratch next year with some help from our women's health specialists. Should it have a rhythm button or not? Send me an email or dm)
